OBJECTIVE: Prevent the ATT from dribbling forward
ORGANIZATION: 15x15 meter grid. Split up players so numbers are even if possible. Not a deal breaker if not.
Defenders will play a ball diagonally to the Attackers with a ground pass. The Attackers must dribble towards the cone as shown as best as possible . The Defenders goal is stop that player from being able to move forward by making a bending run to cut off the angle. The play is over when the Attacker scores or the Defender either steals the ball amd scores in the opposite goal, or puts it out. Swap the groups after 5-10 mins to keep it fresh. After they have each had a turn in a 1v1 , then run it as a 2v2.
Remember, Defenders can’t run into the skill until the attacker has taken a touch.
Make sure players swtich sides and use both feet!
KEY WORDS: bending run, cut off the angle, keep the ball in front of you
GUIDED QUESTIONS: Why is it important to stop the Attacker from moving forward?
What happens when we , the defenders, sprint right at the Attacker as fast as we can?
ANSWERS: They Can't score goals if they can't get forward/slows down their Attacker from getting on our side of the field;
The Attacker can take a simple touch around us because we helped create space for them.
