Player A will play the ball out to either side... Then will go pressure the ball. Player A should approach at side on blocking the goal and pressuring the attacker to force them away from goal.
Player B will run around either mannequin before receiving the ball and going to goal.
Focus: Player A (defenders)
Coaching Points:
Side on (which foot goes forward?)
Patient
Firm tackle to come up with the ball
Quick Feet
Progression: 2 attackers vs 1 defender
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Player A- Passes the ball out and forces the receiving player to the outside. The player should also make angles to goal and passing lane smaller by their body positioning. Side on. Which foot goes forward????
Player B- takes his first towards either mannequin, then dribbles around mannequin to go to goal. (1st option go to goal, 2nd option pass to Player C)
Player C- makes their run the opposite direction of Player B (Create width to pull defender out, be prepared to receive and go to goal)
***Focus on two things... 1 the defenders positioning and Player C creating Space***
Progression for 2v2: Add another defender. Talk about Pressure/Cover. (Most important 2nd defenders patience to cover)
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Player A- Plays the ball to the CM. Then steps to defend with two defenders (R defender and L defender)
FOCUS: 1st defender Force the CM towards 2nd defender (cut off pass to one side). Defenders want to create a 2v2 situation. As the ball moves L to R, defenders shift with the ball.
Attacking team of 3:
CM- We need to get this player used to sitting in the center of the field and not stepping too high (plays like a holding mid) The CM should be encouraged to relax on the ball and move the ball L and R with a pass. The CM should always be a support option once the ball is outside. The CM should look to switch the field.
LM/RM- Create width and remain patient out wide (especiallly when the ball is on the othe side). Look to go 1v1 to goal 1st, cross 2nd (backside player should anticipate the cross), and the switch 3rd.
***Focus on the defenders, pressuring fast enough and covering fast enough. The attacking team we should see an understanding of positioning***
Technical Warm up- Defending (20 mins)
Get in pairs or 3-4 per line
Defending side on (forcing the attacker one direction)
-R Foot forward- Shoulders angled to force the defender left
-L Foot Forward- Shoulders angled to force the defender right
-quick feet
-Push off your front foot to move backwards (if you lean to far back you may fall down)
-The front foot keeps the attacker from cutting inside and the back foot steps to win if the attacker goes outside
Player with the ball will pass to the defenders back foot. The defender stops the ball and continues moving forward staying side on (never switch which foot is forward- it creates space for the attacker). Repeat.
