Screen 1 (20 mins)

Organization:

  • 4 players set up in a diamond
  • 2 defenders in the middle

Instructions:

  • the 4 players on the outside are looking to move the ball from one side to the other. So looking above, players 1, 2 and 3 have to work together to find a pass to player 4. Once player 4 receives the ball, the aim is to find a pass to player 1. 

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • A: move the ball quickly
  • A: patience
  • D: defend the space when outnumbered 
  • D: communicate
  • D: shift/slide quickly
  • D: stay together, don't get split

Regressions/Progressions:

  • increase/decrease the size of area
  • point system; 1 for going around, 2 for splitting defenders

Screen 2 (25 mins)

Organization:

  • 2 teams in an area with 3 gates either side. one on the left, one on the right and another in the center. 

Instructions:

  • attacking team is to dribble through opposition gate. outside gates = 1point and center gate = 3points.

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • A: keep the field wide and long
  • A: look to switch play quickly
  • A: be patient
  • D: stay compact
  • D: communicate
  • D: shift/slide quickly
  • D: look to press/apply pressure on the ball when numbers even or up

Regressions/Progressions:

  • able to pass the ball through gate as well as dribble
  • change size of field or number of players
