Organisation (Practice Layout & Transition)
Attacking transition game that provides realism and focus on creating overloads, outnumbered situations. 2v1 with recovering second defender to create a 2v2.
Drill uses appropriate pitch markings for age groups.
Attackers begin 8 yards each side of the goal and attackers are approximately 25 yards away from the goal opposite defenders.
The Ball starts with one defender at side goal who dribbles into the penalty spot (approximately 2 yards in central area) and leaves the ball there for the second defender, whose job it is to meet the dribbler and play a pass to the adjacent attacker. After the first defender leaves the ball they immediately begin to run around the cone. Once the attacker receives the pass the play becomes a 2v1 towards goal with the other defender running around the cone as a recovery defender to put pressure on the attack and make it a 2v2.
Once the practice finishes all players return to their station and the next group goes. Players keep score.
After 4 mins all players move to the next station and it repeats.

2v1 Overload with Recovery Defender (25 mins)
Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):
Change dimensions of the drill. Move attackers positions forward or back to give more or less time. Move the central cone closer or farther for the recovery defender to get into the play.
Change the pass (service) to a chipped or lob pass. Makes controlling and starting the attack more difficult.
Challenges, Conditions or Targets:
Can attackers use varied runs in 2v1 situations (criss-cross)?
Can the attacker get to goal before the recovery defender gets back into the play?
Can the first defender in the 2v1 delay the attack as much as possible to let the second defender recover?
