Description:

5v5 + GK Attacking Movement SSG drill (15 mins) promoting 2v1 situations in the final third. Extensive drill which works on timing of runs, connection of the ball when striking whilst being on the move and intelligent movement to create space.  Taking up 3/4 width of pitch.

Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):

  • Promote use of wide areas for overloads
  • Underlap and overlapping runs
  • Everyone in the opposition half to score a goal
  • 1st time shots after cutback
  • Winger originally stays wide, next block winger can come into central area.

Coaching Points:

  • If they defend wide, underlapping run as space is inside
  • If they defend narrow, overlapping run as space is outside
  • Unselfish runs in the middle to create space for others
  • Underlapping/Overlapping runner does not always have to be used. Can cut inside and strike
  • Winger when running with the ball cannot be sprinting. Has to be able to allow for the 2nd man runner to join the play.
  • Wait for defender to make the decision. Stay patient
  • Situational coaching points: BE AWARE OF ANYTHING!!!

Challenges, Conditions or Targets:

  • Only 1 defender in the wide areas/ 2 attackers in the wide areas
  • Score from overload = 2x points
  • Offsides are called
  • Defending team has 5 seconds to score in mini goals

Final Points for Coaches:

  • Use Interventions Sparingly
  • 5-6 mins blocks each
  • Balls in quickly at all times. Always have a ball or 2 on hand.
  • NO SAYING WELL DONE OR UNLUCKY!!!
