Shooting 1-2 though box (10 mins)

Area:

Create an area with poles or different coloured discs, cones to the cones in the square. Size will be dictated on number of players but 5 in the middle would be approx 10m x 10m. Put 4 exra poles in the corners of the penalty area and inline with the 2 poles closest to the half way line.

Equipment:

Cones, bibs, poles or discs & balls.

Objective:

Set up with roughly even numbers on each outer pole with reds and blues on opposite corners.

1). the player makes a long pass to the opposite red and makes their way into the shaded box.

2). The player controls the ball and passes to the player to receive in the shaded box and runs around to the back of the cue on the opposite corner.

3). once the red player receives the ball n the shaded box they attempt to shoot at goal however, the defending blue player runs into the mouth of the shaded box to try and tackle the player.they can either take an early shot from distance or be direct and try to beat the man. The are not allowed to turn back and have to be direct and shoot before the red dics. One the ball is dead or a goal is scored the red player goes to the back of the defending pole and the blue goes to the back of the attacking pole. The blue team then repeat the pattern and try to score. Both teams go alternately for the desired time.

The team with the most goals wins.

Key Points:

Encourage the attacker starting the practice to hold their run and move into the box to meet the ball and not be stood waiting for the ball. Be direct and make your mind up early what you want to do.
