2007BR - Pressing outside in to create a central trap when playing against a 4-3-3 with a double pivot #6 in a 3-4-3 box
Principles:
- Pressure, Cover
- Sub Principle: Always press in identified situations
- Set the trap (give them space that you want them to play into)
- Make it compact/organized

See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Game set up is as shown. Start by playing 7v5 (with 5 resting to come in for the pressing players)
- Game starts w/ GK build out (hands, resting players are serving crosses for him to come and claim
- Build out shape with a back 4 and double 6
- Defensive shape with a front 3 and double 10
- Mini goals wide (use the rec goals)
Build out team:
- Use the wide areas to try and build out and score (Carsten, Joey, Charlie, Kyle/Nate?, Vinny, Luka)
Focus team:
- Press outside in to force them to play inside to their #6s, set a central trap for the x2 10s to spring (all others, Jacen can take reps with Ben if we have enough others)
Coaching points:
- Wingers must start deeper and take away the direct pass up the wing to goal
- #9 cuts off the switch between the CBs/GK
- double 10s stay deeper, let at least 1 of the #6s get open
- Press the #6 receiving as the ball is traveling to them with BOTH 10s
- Weak side winger drops deeper and central to cover double 10s/winger outlet
- Once ball is regained, striker should drift between the CBs (can get the ball to him quickly?)
Finish playing 9v9 3/4 field (both goals on 18 yard boxes or use 9v9 in central area of the field)
Both teams play a 3-2-3

3 team pressing game (25 mins)
Set up as shown. Width should be a little bigger than the 6 yard box. Length should be almost half field
- Three teams, two teams with GKs working together, one player from each team in the centre area with defenders
- Attacking teams must play through central players to switch to far side for a point
- Attackers can score two points by switching through the wide channels, and 1 point for switching through the central channel
- Defending teams can regain the ball in the GK area and score for 1 goal, or regain in the central area and score for two goals
- Defending team must send 1 player into the area to press, but no more than 3 players to press (their choice
Play 6x3' blocks, each team defends twice
Attacking teams should play as a back 4 in their box with a single pivot in the middle channel
Coaching points:
- To start, coach the back 4 to move the ball quickly to build out thru the side channels to connect to the #6s
- Defensively, angle of runs to give space where you want them to play
- Timing of pressure, press when ball is traveling!
- Cover players in central channel, drop away and let the #6 (one or both) get open to invite the trap
- Close the trap quickly when #6 receives the ball
