Conditioned Game: Drop & Go (Junior) (15 mins)

PLAYER MODELS:

  • Hayley Raso, Mbappe - can they think of anyone else? 

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • 2 v 2 soccer game, but everyone has a ball in their hand. 
  • If the ball goes out, an opposition player closest to the ball, drops the ball and continues the game. They continue the game without a ball in their hand. 
  • If a team scores a goal, one of their teammates can restart the game by dropping the ball in their back half.  
  • The game either ends when one team finishes all their footballs OR to a end score? 

COACHING CONSIDERATIONS:

  • How can you encourage good teammwork and communication within this exercise? 
  • How can you encourage "The Need for Speed" - speed of thought? speed of execution? Praise the intent.

Tactical Game: Pendulum (Junior Version) (20 mins)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • One player from each team start on the field. Every player has a ball.

  • One player starts the game by dribbling or passing in for a 2v1

  • As soon as a shot is taken or the ball goes out, the person who has been their the longest on the overload team exits.

  • An opponent enters from the opposite end, and now they have a 2v1 overload

  • Repeat this continuously 

  • If the single player scores, one of the players from the team with two, still exits.

  • Exiting player is always the one with overload team that has been on the longest.

COACHING CONSIDERATIONS:

  • Are players entering and attacking aggressively?

  • Are the defenders able to apply some pressure?

  • Progression to reduce overload advantage?

COACHING TOOLS

Restrict:

  • Must score within 10 seconds

Relate:

  • Counter-attack, break away, etc

Reward:

  • Double points if they can score within 5 seconds
