Description

This session is designed to help our 11G to Play Out Of The Back (POTB) in the 7v7 environment. The Build Out Line is in play at this age group so we utilize it in training. POTB is a core part of our playing identity as a club. While we know mistakes will be made that might cost us goals we believe it is critical to developing total footballers.

SSG/TG FUNino (15 mins)

Objective: to develop game intelligence in players.

Organization: 3v3 with 4 goals. The field is approximately 22x30. There are two "scoring zones" at each end that are approximately 6 yards. Goals are 12 yards apart.

Instructions: players are placed 4 on a team. The game starts with the coach throwing the ball in the air in the middle of the grid. Teams play 3v3. Every time either team scores a goal they substitutes for both teams must rotate on and one player must rotate off. After a goal is scored restart with a pass or dribble from the 6 yard line. No corner kicks. No throw ins. Players can pass it in or dribble in if it goes out of bounds.

Variations: N/A

Key Coaching Points:

1. *Which of the 2 goals is less defended? (2) *What shape should you attack and defend

in?(triangle) (3) Why should I play in atriangle? (4) Why should

attackers without the ball keep their distance from the ball carrier? (5) Should the ballcarrier pass early or as the defender gets closer? (6) Should ball-carrier pass or dribble with no defender in front of them?

FUNiño 3v1 (15 mins)

Objective: to develop game intelligence and improve technical ability when WE have the ball.

Organization: 3v1 with 4 goals. The field is approximately 22x30. There are two "scoring zones" at each end that are approximately 6 yards. Goals are 12 yards apart.

Instructions: attacking team builds up from one end and plays 3v1. The defending team rotates in defenders anytime the ball goes out of bounds or either team scores. After 6 attacks the defenders and attackers swap roles.

Variations:

Key Coaching Points:

1. Maintaining spacing to make scoring easier.

2. Create a triangle with the central player back.

3. Transition from defense to attack fast.

FUNiño 3v1 + 1 (15 mins)

Objective: to improve game intelligence and technical development in a small game environment.

Organization: 3v1 on FUNiño field. Attackers start on the 6 meter line. 1 defender starts in the middle of the grid. Another is behind the attackers.

Instructions: 3 attackers try to score in either of the goals they are attacking. As soon as the ball is touched both defenders, one in front and one behind, are live. If they win the ball they try to score in opposite goals. Each team gets 10 reps. The team that scores the most goals wins.

Variations: (1) Have 2nd defender defending the goals instead of chasing from behind.

Key Coaching Points:

1. Which player should start with the ball? Central player because she has more options.

2. Should she pass dribble? Dribble to draw the defender.

3. When should she pass the ball? Just before the defender arrives.

4. What is the right pass? Look at positioning of the defenders.

5. Should the winger control the ball in the shooting zone or shoot first time? Shoot first time if you can so the defenders can't catch up.

6. How many passes is ideal? One. Avoid unneecessary passes that slow down the game.

TG 4v1 POTB (40 mins)

Objective: To improve our ability to play out of the back.

Organization: 35x40 yard space. One goal + 2 small counter goals. Build out line in place.

Instructions: ball starts with the goalkeeper in hands or as a goal kick. The players play 4v1. The goalkeeper and 3 defenders try to build out of the back and score in the small goals. The one attacker tries to win the ball back and score in the big goal.

Variations: (1) add attackers to make it more challenging to POTB (play out of the back). (2) layer in the midfielders and forwards, make the space bigger, so it is more game-like. (3) let the attackers start with the ball.

Key Coaching Points:

1. Show the players where they should go on a goalkick and/or when the goalkeeper has the ball.

2. GK should wait until attackers retreat behind "build out line" to distribute the ball.

3. Create diamond and triangle shapes to keep the ball.

4. Quality passes that are no risk or low risk.

5. COURAGE. COURAGE. COURAGE.
