Technical What part of the foot do we use when passing? Inside of the foot |
Organisational / Instructions
Set up
A 20 x 20 yard box is set up.
A mannequin is placed in the middle
One ball is needed.
Players work in pairs and are set up as shown in the diagram.
Instructions
The practice starts in one corner, the player with the ball takes a touch out of their feet, passes the ball to their partner on their right hand side and follows their pass making a curved run around the cone, this is an overlapping run.
The player receiving the ball looks to drive at the mannequin, as they would drive at a defender, and look to pass to their partner, making an overlapping run just before they get to level the mannequin.
The player making the overlapping run will then pass to the player in front of them, the pair will join the back of the line at the other side and the player receiving the ball and their partner will go.
The practice continues this way, participants will rotate in their pairs between making the overlapping run and dribbling at the mannequin.
Coaching Points
When passing, Strike through the centre of the ball.
Follow through in the direction you want the shot to go.
Keep your eyes on the ball.
Control the ball using the inside or sole of the foot
Follow through in the direction you want the pass to go.
Pass using the inside of the foot.
Dribble by taking small touches and moving the ball forwards
Dribble using different parts of the foot - inside, outside, sole and laces.
Head up, looking forward while dribbling
Progressions / Adaptations
Adaptation - To adapt the practice the coach will change the direction of play, so players will make an overlapping run on the other side instead.
Progression - To progress the practice, the coach will increase the distance between the cones of the square, thus making the practice more challenging as participants need to run faster in order to make the overlapping run in time.

Organisational / Instructions
Set up
Two markers are placed out wide for a wide player and a feeder
Three mannequins are placed centrally for three forwards to stand at
A supply of footballs next to the feeders
Large goal at one end
Instructions
The wide player looks to pass into the feeder who looks to set for the wide player to deliver
Once the wide player plays the ball to the feeder, the three attackers look to time their run into the box and attack the cross played in by the wide player
The three attackers then swap and the practice repeats from the other side, with the side the cross comes from switching each time
The three attackers swap each time the ball is crossed
The feeder and the wide player switch each time the ball is crossed
