2007B Pool 1.5.2 - Switching play when building out of the defensive third when starting from a throw in/wide areas
Principles:
- Find the spare player (may be behind you)
- Draw pressure to break a line (to switch play)
- Options after a pass backwards (forward or switch)
- Spread out, create space (length, width, depth)

3v2 - Start from a throw in
Set up/lines as shown. Players are split into two teams. If GK is here, add a big goal behind the numbers up team, if Def can score, worth 2 goals
Make sure to start with throw from both sides of the area
Coaching points:
- Find the spare player! (He may be behind you)
- Spread out! (Length, width, depth after play is started)
- Throw so they can control it in one touch
- Receiver, can you volley back to thrower in one touch if under pressure?
- How can you open up the space right away?
Progression:
- Make the game 4v3, add a player on the far side of the area
- If the throw in team can switch and control the ball on both sides, 2 goals

Organization:
on half of the field 6v4 buildout game - Use if higher numbers than 18-20, multiple areas (back 3 if needed, back 4 if needed)
- Begin game with throw in (both sides)
- 9,7,11,8 for defense
- 1,2,4,5,3,6 for attacking team
- Set up as shown
- Far goal from throw in is worth 2 goals, the rest are worth 1
Coaching points:
- If both players are under pressure, can they lay it back to the thrower? (find the spare man)
- If the forward throw is covered, can you find the spare man? (maybe behind you)
- Where does your first touch go if you want to switch the field? What body shape do you need?
- Scanning early to know if the switch is on
- Spread out to create a chance for the switch
- Two choices on a pass backwards: Play forwards OR switch play (can be with a forward or backward pass)

Organization:
- 18 players (two GKs)
- 2 gates in the middle of the field
- Defending team should press hard and fast, lock them into one side
- Defending team must recover to central area when ball is not on their side
- Attacking team must switch across the central line before playing to the opposite side in a wide gate
- Pressing team can score in the big goal, only way teams can score
- Ball is started with a throw in on occasion
Coaching points:
- Spread out (length, width, depth)
- Draw pressure to break a line (sideways to switch)
- Find the spare man (on the far side, switch)
- Two options after backwards pass: Play forwards OR switch play
- Speed of play, 3 seconds or less

Organization:
- 2 zones next each other

Instruction:
Ball starts in the hands of outside players, thrown in to an inside players are working on:
- Headers from throw in back to server
- Throw ins, volley back
- Throw ins, touch away from thrower, find outside player of the other color without a ball
- Outside players now pass with their feet
Coaching Point:
- Body position
- look up and scan the field
- keep comunication
