Crossing & Finishing (20 mins)

Key Factors:

This session is aimed at attacking players getting in the box and getting shots off.

Players on the half way line, play a diagonal pass to the Target Men on the side of the goal, get in to the box on to the lay off to get a shot off. After taking their shot, its like a 2nd phase of play. Pick up a ball behind the goal and pass it wide to the 2 guys out of the wings. The wide men have 1 Touch to lay the ball of, the next guy crosses in fo the oncoming attacker.

After the player picks up a ball behind the net, the next player starts their pass to the Target Man.

1 - First Run Path

2 - Second Run Path

3 - Recovery Run Path

This session is for Attacking players. Getting shots off and attacking balls in the box.

As most crossing/finishing sessions, the aim is at repetition of replicating attacking scenarios.

Getting the first shot off, then as in a match, when the rebound goes wide and the wide men recycle the ball and get a cross in.

After the both attacks, i get the players to make a recovery run back to the initial starting point.

This replicates a reaction to a potential counter attack in actual match play.

This session is a 20 minute session:

SSG (20 mins)

SSG Set-Up:

This SSG has both of the finishing elements from the first session.

This has an 18 Yard box at either end of a 40m x 25m area.

With a 4v4 in the middle section, the teams will replicate a midfield battle leading in to goalscoring opportunities. The players will be looking to get 6 passes before looking to play the ball in to their respective Wide Men / Target Men. They will have 2 Touches maximum to play the ball back in to their attacking player entering the box. This will question decision making and reaction play from the midfield players. Playing the right ball at the right time to then react and get themselves in the box with the right run. There will be a high volume of shots and crosses which will replicate the repetition we aimed at in the initial Crossing/Finishing session.

Although I will ask for things to be done with 2/3 touches, there won't be an actual limit on touches in this game as I don't want to take anything away from the volume of attacks.

This session will be run as follows:

- 3 x 3 mins Each Way (18 Mins Total)

- Changing Outside Players after each 3 min interval

- Session will allow all players to have a turn at being on the outside on both ends of the field.

- If the session becomes too easy, could possibly introduce a Defensive Player Breaking in to the box to challenge the Attacker. But remember, this session is aimed at Shots, Crosses & Goals.
