Pitch Size - 45 x 30 each station being (15 x 30
Equipment - Balls, Flat Markers, Bibs, x2 Mannequins (2 cones could work)
Keep players in teams and show them around each station with a player led demonstration
Practice
- Players work around the stations, completing each drill for a time (8 mins = total 24 mins)
- Players will change over roles after 4 mins on each drill.
Drill 1
- Players work in pairs and stand behind the cones facing each other on the diagonal.
- Players must then pass the ball to their partner and the player must control the ball and move forwards with the ball,
the initial passer becomes the defender and this creates a 1v1 situation
- As this drill is a lead up to silent football i will ask the players to focus on body language rather than their voices.
- An attacking goal is scored only if they reach either gate (marked with flats)
- Next pair will go once the ball is either tackled/runs dead or a gate is scored.
Drill 2
-This drill is mirrored at either end of the training area. 2 blue and 2 red form each drill.
- Red start with the ball and pass to a Blue who is in front of a mannequin (defender)
- The player has to control the ball and hold the ball away (furthest foot) from the mannequin (defender)
- they then scan and turn to dribble to the next blue who passes to the red at the start.
- This is a follow your pass drill creating a rotation within the drill setting.
- Again the coach should promote the use of body language rather than voice during this drill (example pointing
to feet to receive pass)
Drill 3
- This is a large scale 1 v 1 (2v1 progression)where we can add in challenges
- Players are split 2 blue 2 red at either end of drill between the cones ( these will be the gates)
- Red has the ball to start and dribble out as attacker
- Immediately a Blue player presses the Red player creating the 1v1 working on body shape and 4 s of defending when tackling which are
shut down, slow down, side on, sit down (showing an example in player led demo)
-Blues have the challenge on closing them down and winning the ball as high up the pitch as possible there is three areas marked out on their training area with cones and flats. the higher up they win the ball or travel with the ball the more points their team gets.
- Working from half way the points are - first section 3 / second section 2/ final section 1
- Team with most points wins
(this drill could progress to a 2v1 in attack)
- As this is in prep for silent football we need to ask the players to focus on visuals and defenders to be alert when pressing.
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
transitions:
lifting the flats in the middle we use whole pitch and go into two small sided games
Challenges, Conditions or Targets:
these are the small sided games where we can further observe the mechanics and techniques learnt previously. this is another opportunity to add interventions.
Challenges - players must try and stay silent utilizing their bodies where possible. working on body language rather than voice.
two touch pass challenge
super striker who gets two goals for every goal (promotes passing)
challenge the players to scan more before a decision
Growth and Adaption
Adding in once a player has scored he becomes the vocal point for the team creating a leadership quality and element to the practice. once the next player scores the last "captain" is quiet again.
