Lead In (15 mins)

Lead in practice....

Blue play 3 v 2 in boxes - Target of the game is MF to combine with CF to play 1-2 before playing to wide player who should try and score in mini goal.

If red team win the ball can they dribble out into shaded area to score a goal..... GK will then restart the play.

If numbers allow play using left winger in one box and right winger in other box. Rotate players to give each player ample touches and movement to warm up.

GK's/CB's in shaded area to begin play each time by playing in to blue 4 - If not an option play 8 or 10.

Progressions.

1. To begin with restrict blue team to each player must touch the ball before it goes wide...

2. The 9 must be used to combine in a 1-2 (this might encourage the reds to screen the pass to him which creates need for 9 to clever with movement)

3. Players can swap with wide players as ball is played in to create rotation....

4. wide players can play to number 9 for a first time finish in the goal

Session (30 mins)

Practice

Understand when and how to combine, create and attack final third, using our wide players when possible.

Utilising crosses into the triangle of triumph (POMO....)

We're looking for variation in delivery and type... Pulled back, driven, early, hanging, low and hard.......

Setup

Using half pitch

8 Blue players starting in possession in a 1-4-3-3

6 RED + GK out of possession in a 1-4-4-2

Detail

Blue team will start with the ball on each restart, looking to score in big goal, can they combine to attack through wide areas?

Red team start out of possession, can they win the ball back and try to score in mini goals on half way line? Add time limit to increase challenge

Discuss how to utilise 2v1 more effectively in wide areas (underlap or overlap)

Types of runs from attacking players and finishes in box

Adding goals for correct type of cross

Introduce unopposed in wide channel boxes if success rate needs to be improved.

Objectives

In possession:

Exploit the numerical advantage using the 5 lanes of the pitch.

Make the pitch big - Width and Depth in Attack

Fast Passes and forward movement to create 2 v 1 or 3 v 2 - Utilising triangles to build the play....

Overlap/Underlap in wide areas.

Weight & accuracy of Final Pass - Can the player shooting finish 1st time?

Session focuses on our wide players 11 & 7 as primary players with units of 4, 8, 9, 10 & 2 and 4, 8, 9, 10 & 3 supporting them...

Any combination can be our secondary unit across this practice

Thinking about on the ball, around the ball and away from the ball...

What's 10's movement as the ball is crossed then cleared? (Edge of the area? In the area?) what about 8?

Is 11 attacking the far post when 7 crosses the ball?

Are 10 and 8 attacking the box for the ball to be pulled back?

is 4 screening and trying to pinch the clearance?
