Reaction Time Game (20 mins)

Santa's Little Helper

Organisation

-Children are put in pairs and are given 1 Christmas Tree Between them (Orange cone).

-Scatter gifts around (coloured cones)

Description

-Start without a ball

Player run around freely (pretending to be in a sledge) in the area, listening close to instructions: Jump, Sprint, Freeze.

-Santa (the coach) however, may randomly choose to shout out something (a gift) that may be of a certain colour i.e. A Blue toy sports car.

-Players must then quickly run to collect the Blue gift to put under their Christmas Tree (putting the cone on Orange cone).

-Players are not allowed to stand still except when Santa says Freeze! If children are caught moving, then they must return One of their gifts back!.

Progressions

Add one ball in the middle.

-The ball is the super prize in the middle (players must run around the outside of the Orange cones). When Santa says "Its Christmas!" players must race to pick up the ball/prize!

-Now players ALL have a ball and must use dribbling and close control at all times. Continue with instructions but now you may shout out toe taps, inside shuffle. Also, if you shout out a present, players must stop the ball and place the gift under their tree before dribbling again.

-If players use theirs hands, they must return a gift back!

-Now players have 1 ball between 2 and must complete 5 passes before picking up the Gift

Reaction Gates (15 mins)

Reaction Gates

Organisation

-Put players in pairs

-Scatter Red: Fire Gates and Yellow: Sand Gates (enough for 1 per pair)

-Put one ball in each gate.

Description

-Players must run together (never being far from one another) and listen for instructions

-When coach shouts out a gate i.e. Sand Gate, players must react quickly and run to their nearest gate, where they must complete 6 passes together and then sit down!

-Award 1 Christmas Present (a point) to team who completes this the quickest!

Progression

-Now, after 2 turns, eliminate ONE gate.

-This time there is 1 gate less than the amount of pairs- so last pair loses 1 life (give teams 2 lives)

-Keep eliminating gates until there is only Two gates left- one yellow and red.
