Introduce all SIX surfaces to touch ball.
1. We will start with the introduction of all 6 surfaces to touch the ball. - Inside, Outside, Sole, Laces, Heel, Toe (Emergency Only).
2. Coach takes of shoe to show surfaces of the foot.
3. First surface is INSIDES. Have players smack the inside of the shoe with one hand; so that their hand is stuck between insides of shoes. (DING DING DING DING). Have players do shuffles around the field.
4. Second surface is OUTSIDE. Have players smack their outside of their foot with both hands. Right hand for right foot etc. Explain that your hands are free because that's the outside of the shoe. Have players do shuffles with only the outside of the foot.
5. Third surface is the SOLE. Bottom of the foot. Demonstrate and tell kids to give you a red card if you touch it with other than your sole when traveling the playing area.
6. Fourth surface is the LACES. You use the laces to dribble in a straight line. Bring the fact up that you can't turn but can definitely dribble in a straight line.
7. Fifth surface is HEEL. The heel is used to stop the ball from going out, passing to teammates, shooting. Have the kids dribble w/ laces three times and than HEEL the ball.
8. Sixth surface is the TOE. You use your toes for emergencies only.

Green Light/ Red Light (Dribbling in a straight line with your laces)
Players will try to dribble on command to the finish line and try to win the dribbling race.
We want to make sure they understand that if they want to dribble in a straight line they must use laces. Also, keep the ball close to them so when coach calls RED! they are able to stop it and have control of their ball. Their first touch should be long and into open space.
This sets the stage for changing directions.

Ball Mastery:
3. Changing Direction: Now we will get into changing directions using inside, outside, sole, heel
Progression 1: Have them dribble only in straight lines. Talk about dribbling in a straight line and that in soccer we don't dribble only in straight lines and we have to know how to change directions.
Progression 2: Introduce surfaces that you change directions with. Have them use those surfaces.
Progression 3: They dribble freely and when coach says go; they will change directions:
1. With the insides
2. With the Outsides
3. With their sole
4. With their heel

Field Set-Up
Mini- Kickers Field Set-Up
All fields will be next to each other so that coaches can tend to two fields at one time and we could slide players to whichever field they belong on. As players arrive they will immediately start playing until 4:10PM. Let's encourage players to arrive early to play their PICK-UP game.
Notice the coaches in between fields to help with both.
