Positioning (10 mins)

Key Focus: Goalkeeper Positioning

The goal line, penalty area and arc are marked with different colours which pairs it with a seperate third of the pitch

  •  Goal line = Orange zone (Defensive third)
  • Penalty Box outline = Yellow zone (Middle third)
  • Arc Outline = Red xone (Attacking third)

Execution

  • This goalkeeper is tasked with positioning themselves in the relevent area based on where the ball is located.

 - Example: If the ball is within the area of the orange cones, the goalkeeper must stay on their goal line.

  • As the game is being played, the goalkeeper is tasked with staying aware of their position both in and out of posession.
  • Aims to encourage the goalkeeper to learn sensible areas to position themselves
  • The goalkeeper can leave their postion area if they are the only player, on their team, within the defensive third to sweep the ball. However, the goalkeeper must return to their position once the ball is cleared, passed to a teammate, or if a teammate enters the defensive third.
Aims:
  • Is the goalkeeper stuttering when changing position?
  • How fast is the goalkeeper changing position?
