Possession / Transition to be completed after BOX soccer session.

Working on secondary movement - players moving into space to receive the ball in an attacking transition.

Introduction (10 mins)

Introduction

Group split into two groups (9 and 8). Groups working in 20x20yd boxes. Practise starts with blues passing and moving in their area. Whites in group opposite stand next to their cones. On coaches whistle, white players check away from cones into space and blue player in possession passes into one of the whites. practise continues with whites passing and moving and blues awaiting pass.

Progression

Player receives the ball on the half turn and makes forward pass to a player who runs out of box.

Coaching Points

- quick tempo and accurate passing whilst waiting for whistle

- timing of movement after whistle

- quickly execute accurate pass forward

- After progression, movement of players other than the receiver, to offer safe option and two forward options

Transition (20 mins)

Transition / Possession

Organisation

Blues play whites 8v4 in 40x40yd box. When whites win possession, the white players in the opposite box check away from cones to get into space to receive. Game becomes 8v4 in favour of whites in bottom box. Eight passes for a point. 4 minute games.

Coaching Points

- Defensive players identify defensive triggers to aggressively press; 1) an aerial pass 2) a player on the touchline - in these situations press together to win the ball back

- Players in opposite box also identify these defensive triggers to move into space just before possession is won back

- Early accurate pass forward after winning possession (possibility of need for one pass to secure possession before forward pass)

- Movement of players to be options after initial forward pass.
