DRILL (15 mins)
ORGANISATION
•14 players (6 reds v 6 blues + GK)
•Reds (COACHED)
•Blues (MANAGED)
•Area = Half a pitch + 10 yards
CONDITIONS
•The three midfield players and three forwards combine to create chances on goal.
•This drill can be performed as a shadow drill to start (no defenders). Explain the potential runs the forwards can make and run through them without defenders.
•Defenders to initially play at 75% effort. When comfortable introduce full pressure.
•The defending team attempt to transfer the ball back to the server as quickly as possible.
•Once the ball is out of play the attacking team resume possession from the starting point position just over the half way line.
KEY POINTS/DETAIL
•Encourage attacking players to position themselves between the opponents defending and midfield lines.
•Opportunities to play short diagonal passes through to forwards running behind the defence.
•Through balls from midfielders.
•The central striker provides a platform for others to make runs off.
•Striker are to pull defenders out of position leaving gaps behind for other forwards to run into.
•Forwards to make complimentary runs. Some check short to build play, some threaten behind to a direct through ball.
•Rotate positions.
•Create space.
•Look to play quick combinations.
•Limited touches to facilitate quick play in a tight central playing area.
