Football/Soccer Session (Academy Sessions): Team Handball - U8

Team Handball (15 mins)

Set Up: 

• Divide the players into two even groups with 1 ball.
• 1 small portable goal at each end.
• One group good attacking (red) and one group (yellow) defending.
• Field size 30 (L) x 20 (W).

Action: 

• While running around the area, the reds have possession of the ball in their hands.
• The reds try to pass (throw) the ball to another red. 
• Players can move when in possession of the ball but only 3 steps. Anymore and it is a turnover.
• If the ball is dropped teams change possession.
• Teams score by throwing the ball to another team mate who has to head or kick the ball into the goal.
• No dropping the ball to yourself to score.

• The time of sets or size of the area can be adjusted to suit the needs and abilities of the players.

Player Tips: 

• As Above.

Coaching Points:

• Correct running/throwing with the ball.
• Ensure you show players how to receive the ball facing forward.
• Quick passes and find a team mate.
• Using hands allows them to keep their head up.

Session Timing:

• Complete 4 sets of 3 minutes with a 1 minute rest in between sets.
