Animation - Technical Practice - Midfield Combinations (20 mins)

Instructions:

  • Dimensions: 30x20 yard rectangle with triangle set up in the middle - Mocking a 1-4-2-3-1 formation

  • Dimensions depending upon age group (Modify if necessary)

  • Various sequences/combinations are pulled out - Looking at drawing pressure to break lines with quick inter play

  • The objective of the game is to complete the combination with good quality, tempo and realism

Progressions:

  • Complex progressions

  • Attackers are restricted to two touch limit.

Attacking Coaching Points:

  • Movement to create separation from cone - late, deceptive, sharp

  • Quality of pass - Weight, timing, accuracy, disguise - Play to the correct foot

  • Behaviors once your line is broken with a pass - Can you be an option underneath to support

  • Coach should look to drive quality, tempo and realism - If numbers allow, setup 2 of the same activity and have groups complete for total rounds in certain time frame - Award points for completion & cleanliness
