set-up:
(8 players - 2 teams)
mark out a grid between 25 yard and half-way line (about 10 mtrs wide)
within the grid two teams play continuous 2v2
stress principles of small unit play
SUP PRINCIPLES:
ball carrier: carry sideways to space to create pass to support; pass or eliminate; is it possible to lead through after pass; accelerate to space following
support:
early stretch (width and height); allow line penetration by posting up / lead sideways; if ball carrier breaks defence line... lead ahead on angle
create 2v1 then 2v1 principles
questions: related to the actions of the support player - when lead; how lead; where lead; shape of lead
Progressions:
Extend into 3v3 - with additional questions because of the second support player

divide pitch in half between half-way line and 25 yard line; balls in middel on half-way line
exercise starts with attacker (blue) taking a self-pass
constraints - keep at least one attacking player inside circle; 2 inside 25 yard area / circle
small unit play principles
On turn-overs; defenders to play to one of the wide goals on the half-way line
SUP principles as previous - focus especially on leading.

Small Unit Play - Varibale numbers game
Set Up:
2 small pitches using the baseline and halfway line. Goals at either end (need to set up circles with flat lines [not in picture]). Put balls down the sidelines and baseline to continue the flow of the game.
Teams gain players through 'good behaviour'; lose players through bad behaviour
Bad Behaviour definites:
- carry into contact
- eliminate through opn stick space
Good behaviour:
-eg. hard, late leads
Game starts as a 4v2, and go to a maximum of 5v5; and minimum of 2v2. Teams can earn players through 'good behaviour' but loose players through poor behaviours.
Good Behaviours:
- drive to space
- getting ahead of the ball
- score (?)
Poor Behaviours:
- sloppy execution of skill (passing; trapping etc)
- driving into contact (when no need)
- workrate poor (not getting ahead)
Make sure we keep score and set consequences for not winning.

Small Unit Play (SUP)
Objectives:
- receiving under pressure
- driving to space
- getting ahead
The exercise is a 2v2 in a relatively small area (between 25 yard and halfway line), with end-zones at either end. In the end zone are 2 disengaged players (1 at each end). The exercise will start with the ball being passed in by either of the two end-zone players. The objective for the attacking players is to work the ball to the player in the opposite end-zone.
The player who passes into the end-zone trades places with the disengaged player.
encourage players to work towards objectives by:
- awarding good behaviour (get ahead; and drive to space is a point)
- punishing poor behaviour (no get ahead is sub or card)
- set consequences (if you keep score [you should] .. losing team chooses consequence]
