Social Skills Practice
Organisation – The area size is 25m x 25m split into 4 x 10m x 10m boxes with 5m safety areas or run off areas organised.
16 players total, 21 mins and 7 blocks of 3 mins, winners move to the next pitch while the loser side stays on the same one
Carousel Practices
Pitch 1:
2 vs 2 with two small goals.
Both teams compete to score as many goals as possible within the time limit. Focus on attacking quickly and defending as a pair.
Pitch 2:
2 vs 2 directional dribbling game.
Each team must protect their own line while trying to score by dribbling through the opponent's line. Emphasis on 1v1 skills and team cover.
Pitch 3:
2 vs 2 passing into target zones.
Players score by successfully passing into and then out of a square placed in each corner of the pitch. Focus on accuracy, awareness, and teamwork.
Pitch 4:
2 vs 2 line control passing game.
Teams protect their own line and aim to score a point by making a pass that is controlled through the opponent’s line. Focus on timing, movement, and control under pressure.

Practice Title: Combination Play & Finishing – Movement & Timing in the Final Third
Topic: Movement Off the Ball & Crossing Coordination
Social Skills Practice Focus: Communication, teamwork, awareness, timing
Organisation
3 players per sequence: A, B, and C
B starts with the ball near the corner of the penalty box
A is positioned a few metres ahead of B
C acts as the striker (centrally positioned)
One goalkeeper in goal
Additional players rotate in after each rep
Coach or helper to manage extra balls and pace of the drill
Target zones marked at the near and far post
How the Practice Works
Player B begins with the ball and passes into Player A
After the pass, B loops behind A, making a supporting run into wide space
A holds the ball briefly, then plays into the space for B to chase
B delivers a cross
Player C attacks the near post, Player A attacks the far post
All three players sprint to the centre circle after the sequence
New trio rotates in
Coaching Points
Delay from A to allow B’s movement
Quality of through pass and timing
Cross with purpose: low driven, lofted, cut-back
Timing and angles of A and C’s runs into the box
Communicate movements and be aware of others
Intensity in the final sprint – simulate transition phase
Progressions
Introduce a passive defender to track B’s wide run
Add a live defender inside the box to challenge A and C
Require B to cross with their weaker foot
Allow for second-phase finishing (rebound or second ball from the coach)
Regressions
Walk through the pattern slowly for new groups
B crosses without the running combination
Allow C to start closer to goal for easier finishing
Remove goalkeeper if confidence is low
Challenges, Conditions & Targets
Challenge: Time your movement perfectly – not too early, not too late
Condition: Cross must be delivered within 3 touches
Target: 5 quality goals (good timing + finish) in each 5-minute block
Social: Encourage players to support and guide one another vocally
Timing (20 Minutes)
Block 1 (6 minutes): Walk-through + unopposed practice – allow learning
Block 2 (6 minutes): Add a condition (e.g., 2-touch cross, sprint timing)
Block 3 (6 minutes): Add progression (defender, competition, weak foot)
Final 2 minutes: Cool-down effort or player reflection

Category: Game-related practice – Crossing, Decision-Making & Finishing
Skill Level: U16
Practice Title: Small-Sided Game – Corridor Play & Finishing Bonus Challenge
Topic: Decision Making in the Final Third – Using Wide Areas to Create & Score
Social Skills Focus: Communication, support play, and tactical awareness
Organisation
Game played on a reduced pitch with 2 goals and 2 goalkeepers.
4v4 inside the central area
2 wide players (one per team) in each corridor
1 support player behind each goal (used in second phase)
The corridors (highlighted with red dots) are out of bounds for the central players
Wide players are neutral (initially fixed) and rotate after every 2–3 minutes
First 10 minutes: swap wide players 2–3 times
Final 15 minutes: progress into a full-pitch game
Rules & Conditions
Central players play 4v4 – free touches
Wide corridor players (wingers): 2-touch maximum
No central player is allowed to enter the corridor
If a team scores from a cross (delivered by a wide player), they are awarded 2 goals
If a team scores from regular open play, it counts as 1 goal
After 10 minutes, allow teams to also use the supporting player behind the opposition goal (can play bounce pass or switch)
Wide players change regularly to ensure full player involvement
Coaching Points
Encourage awareness of space and using wide areas to stretch play
Timing and quality of support runs to connect with crosses
Crosses should be early, accurate, and well-weighted
Players must scan and make quick decisions – when to play wide, when to go central
Encourage vocal support and teamwork across all zones
Movement off the ball to create finishing opportunities
Progressions
Allow wide players to drive in with the ball after their first touch
Support player behind the goal becomes active in build-up play
Add an overload (e.g., 5v4) for a short period and switch
Introduce a time limit to attack once possession is won
Regressions
Remove 2-touch limit for wide players
Allow one central defender to enter corridor once per attack
Play without the support player behind the goal
Challenges, Conditions & Targets
Challenge: Can your team score using wide support in 3 consecutive attacks?
Condition: Wing players limited to 2 touches – encourage quick play
Target: Each team must complete 3 passes before going wide
Bonus: Goals from wide crosses = 2 points, regular goals = 1 point
Timing – 25 Minutes Total
Block 1 (10 mins): Run the 4v4 game with wide players rotating every 2–3 mins
Block 2 (15 mins): Full game on larger pitch – incorporate wide zones and goals
Allow wing players and support players to remain involved in transitions
Maintain double-goal rule for crosses

warm up / passing drill
topics : warm up
15mns
5 blocks of 3mns then everyone does once each block
we will install a variant after the third block depending on how well the group responds to the passing drill / warm up
Player A passes the ball to Player B.
Player B receives the ball with the correct body shape and in movement (open body, scanning before receiving).
Player B takes a directional touch either to the left or right, based on their decision.
B then passes to Player C on that same side.
Immediately after the pass, Player B runs to the opposite side, receives a ball from a waiting player or coach, dribbles centrally, and plays back to Player A.
Rotation goes for between 45 to 60 seconds
Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):
progressions :
Require one-touch pass to C after the first directional touch.
Introduce time pressure – full sequence must be completed in under X seconds.
instaure a 1-2 to get to each side without having to dribble
Allow C to return the ball to B with a 1-2, instead of the drill ending with B's pass.
regressions :
Allow B to have unlimited touches until comfortable with body shape and passing.
Remove the dribble back to the middle – B just jogs back to starting point.
Use bigger spacing between players to give more time to think.
Reduce options – only one side open (force pass right or left).
Challenges, Conditions or Targets:
Challenges:
Can B receive with correct body shape every time?
Can B choose the best side based on space or pressure?
Can B execute the whole move without stopping or hesitation?
Conditions:
C can only receive the ball if they call for it.
Player B must look over their shoulder before receiving.
The entire action (A to B to C + run and return) must be done under 10 seconds.
