Description

Blocked session (10 mins)

1 v 1 (Blocked) Progession (to take place after the basic skill has been mastered or grooved)

Markers placed to create a channel (Can be increased in size dependant on age/quality of goalkeepers)

GK and server starts at opposite ends of the channel. (More channels can be created if there is a large group)

Server has more freedom than the last session ans they can move down the channel at different speeds and move around more.

On 'go' command from coach, both players are free to move with the object of the session is for the striker to (simple) dribble the ball to the goal line. The GK attempts to save the ball at the strikers feet or hit it away from the striker.

Repeat / swap strikers

Progression

Striker allowed to introduce skills/tricks/nutmeg

Coaching Points

Quick approach to striker, change from ready position to low set

GK fluid position (Feet/balance/hands/head - more crouched, with hands low to ground)

GK keeps eyes on ball.

Commit when sure the ball can be won. (Increased decision making skills)

Variable session (15 mins)

1 v 1 (Variable) (Introduces different speeds and direction to the practice to be more 'Game Specific'

GK starts on goal line, with striker facing goal on edge of 'D'. Feeder stands behind striker and plays ball either side or infront of stiker to move onto. (this 'feeder' can be the coach for younger age groups)

GK makes decision on placement and speed of ball to leave line and challenge for ball or to move into position and set to block the strikers run and stop the shot (Shooting can be added as a progression once the skill has been completed to the satisfaction of the coach)

Progressions

Increase the strikers options to shoot/chip or have more touches of the ball.

GK starts with back to striker and turns on coaches call when ball is released.

Coahing Points

Decision making to come and collect / challenge for the ball.

Secondary save / reaction direction of ball.

(Coaching Points are similar throughout to ensure the performers are confident with the skill and have experienced it in different situations)

Small Sided Game (15 mins)

Small Sided Game 1v1

Set Up

40 x 15 sized pitch

Minimum 5v5 up to 10v10

1 goalkeeper per team

Pitch to be split into thirds

Orgainisation

Play a normal match with in the the middle section of the pitch,

Have a striker positioned in either third from each team.

The objective is for the teams in the middle area to aim to play a ball in to the striker who will then take the keeper on in a 1 vs 1 situation.

Variation

Add a defender in to end thirds to add competion along with another striker to give different options and variation for the goalkeeper.
