Activation/Warm up (25 mins)

Session Theme - Switching Play - When, How and Why

Organisation:

  • Size  26 x 20 approx. (See Picture)
  • 5v5 +2 + (N)
  • Balls, Bibs, Cones
  • All players, (N) - CM/4, Wide players - W/FBs

Task: 

  • Teams look to retain possession and move the ball from one side of the Narrow Rectangle and back again. The outside players. (Preferably wingers) Return the ball back to the Team that made the pass. 

 Coaching Points: 

  • Scanning - Prepare your space to receive
  • Body Positioning -  Open hips to play off back foot or be strong reliable to link with a team mate
  • Second Movements - Create that angle to receive a pass back. 
  • (N) - Can we look to play in between the gaps/Lines

Technical - SSG (30 mins)

Session Theme - Switching Play - When, How and Why

Organisation:

  • Size  - Half a pitch. Full width
  • 5v5 + (N)
  • Balls, Bibs, Cones. Goal. 2 Small goals 
  • All players, (N) - CM/4, Wide players - W/FBs - Player Positional

Task:

  • Play starts from the Coach either side, Game is live. ATT team look to recognise moments in when to switch the point of attack to the other side of the pitch, using different methods to draw the DEF team in the exploit the far side threat. 
  • OOP team (Assistant to coach) must occupy 2 thirds at all times. 
  • IP Team must occupy all 3 thirds. - Make the pitch big.

 Coaching Points:

  • Scanning - Prepare your space to receive
  • Body Positioning - Open hips to play off back foot or be strong reliable to link with a team mate
  • Second Movements - Create that angle to receive a pass back.
  • (N) - Recognise when to drop in and be the "Pivot"
  • OOP - Stay compact, Shift as a unit, Dictate play. (Asst Led)
  • IP - Make pitch big, Draw pressure, retain then exploit. 

Coach Behaviours/Questions: 

  • Lead coach - Work with the IP and (N)  - What can you see when you possession one one side of the pitch
  • What can you do to draw the OOP team in?
Rewards/Challenges/Difference 
  • DEF team rewards - Score in outside wide goals within 5 sec of regain (2 goals)
  • DEF score Centrally in the D, 3 goals. 
Progression -
  • Wide players  can be Pressed
  • OOP team can match up in the wide zones to create a 1v1 scenario.
