1v1 defending. Defenders play ball across to attackers. Attackers try to dribble under control through shaded scoring gates. Defenders can score in far mini goals if they win the ball. Play is over if attacker turns their back with the ball (delay).
Instruction points :
- CLOSE down (speed & angle of approach to pressure ball to stop penetration)
- SLOW down (as you near the ball, decelerate get low, side on with eyes on ball)
- SIT down ( stay low & side on to attacker, close enough to reach out & touch them)
- DELAY the attacker and make PREDICTABLE
- don't switch front foot (why? What happened if you did switch front foot?)

1v1 to goal. Defenders & attackers start at angles to each other, switch angles after 1 round. Keeper plays ball out to attacker. 1 point for shot on target, 2 points for a goal. Defenders can win ball and score in 2 mini goals or connect with keeper for a point. Keep track of points. Rotate.
Instruction points :
- CLOSE down, SLOW down, SIT down (make attacker's eyes go to ball)
- DELAY the penetration (in this case a dribble, pass or strike) & don't dive in
- if attacker plays back to support, drop quickly into dangerous space
- get in line with ball between attacker and goal
Progression : have attackers start by receiving from their teammates with back to goal

5v5 SSG. Regular game rules. Reinforce all earlier points.
Instruction points :
- 1st defender is always player closest to ball
- any penetration (especially strikes on goal) are opportunities to teach
- which way do you want to show the attacker now? Outside? Inside? Why?
