11aside Playing Through Area 2
Session Plan:
When the ball enters the marked out zone (Shaded) the game will begin. Players will see success and pictures on building the ball beyond the marked out zone, anything after this zone is freedom for the players.
Numbers:
Important to recreate the central build up numbers, (8 minimum) the players next need to be added to the CB for in-possession (to prevent unrealistic overload, do not let them enter the marked zone. Any more players start rebuilding the session with a player each in the wide areas (Same side filled first to replicate 1v1 opportunities).
Pictures:
Picture 1: When the CDM receives the ball, they may have a player on their back from this CBs should step to offer a straight bounce pass. The CB may then be able to play it into the wide player, this player can then play the ball into the more advanced midfielder, they will also have the opportunity to play the ball back into the CB or CDM to continue central play.
Picture 2: The CDM may be able to receive after losing their man with their body open, the other midfielders will need to react and receive the ball quickly. If the CM cannot receive the CDM can play back to the CB and either play straight through or replicate the 1st Picture.
Picture 3: A CM may drop to support the CDM and split slightly wider, this can allow the spare CM to drop between to receive the ball on the half-turn either to play forward or again, play the ball backwards to the CB to create a new angle.
Coaching Points:
Players need to make sure their body positions are set to play quickly (especially focus on the CDM role to play with their body open to see all options.
In the tight build-up players need to scan (make sure they understand what they are scanning)
Wingers need to develop their reading of the game as to when to drop narrow (and allow Fullbacks to become the width) and when to move wider to create angles of space for others to exploit.
