Attacking Review

Use a 30x25 grid and put gates at each end. Split the kids into two teams and have each team on opposite ends of the field. The game is initiated by one team passing the ball into the second team. The team receiving the ball will send two players and the defending team will only send one player. At this point the three kids on the field will play 2v1. They can pass or dribble through the gate to score. Be sure to switch sides so that both teams get a chance to attack and defend.
•What determines whether you pass or dribble?
•What space can you run into to eliminate the defender if you get the ball?
•What types of runs or combinations will help you beat defenders?
Coaching Points:
•Decision to pass or dribble (what’s the defender offering)
•Off the ball movement – how can I eliminate the defender with my movement
oOverlap
oDiagonal run
ocombination play
•Finding a space with a clear path to the ball

Play 2v2 or 3v3 (four gates), but when the ball goes out, a goal is scored, or time goes to long – three new players for each team enter the field. Have the players initiate the game with a pass across to the other team.
•Are you in a good position to support the player with the ball?
•Was your pass in front of the runner or did he have to slow down?
•What can you do to eliminate the defender?
•If you don’t get the pass right away can you find a new run to make?
•What run or combination will work in this situation?

Facilitate the game and help with positions, positioning, and game format. Facilitate a basic scrimmage with a goalkeeper and five field players. Allow the kids to “PLAY” but give guidance when necessary. Use a “coaching in the game” approach to emphasize the topics from this week’s training. Be sure to use the labeled names for the positions!

Individual Footskills (15 mins)
Every player inside a large zone, every player has a ball. Each player dribbles the ball around avoiding contact with other players. On the coach’s signal, the players perform the footskill that was demonstrated. In between signals, the players should be focused on getting frequent touches. They do not need to run extremely fast, but they should be touching the ball very frequently.
•Skills to work on: Patterns: Zig-zag, roll. Forward: Stab Push, Scissors, Double scissors, 1-Foot V-Pull, 2-Foot V-Pull.
