Learning Outcomes:

Building Blocks - Team Tactics

1. What: Improve the team ability to move the ball quickly to unbalance the opponents and create space to initiate the attack. Ability to attract the pressure to open space behind or in the weak side while remaining composed and applying a clinical possession using 1-2 touches to absorb the pressure, until finding the right moment to play forward.

2. Where: Anywhere on the field. Mostly in the mid third

3. When - In possession during the creation phase. Opponent is well organized in defensive shape

4. Who - all team. Focus players: midfielders, full backs and wingers

5. Why: Opponent are well organized in mid block and moving as a unit to close the gaps. Our team ball circulation is to slow to take advantage of the space created.

Introduction (10 mins)

Organization:  

  • 4+1v1 to the target rondos. 
  • Set up two field for bigger numbers 
Instructions:
  •  4 red players work to complete 3-4 passes before playing forward to the other half to score a point.
  • Once playing forward the wingers move up to take supporting position and defender sprint to apply pressure.
  • Another 4 vs 1 situation take place.
  • If defender wins the ball try to dribble past the end line of the half he wins the ball. 
  • If successful the yellow player who lost the ball becomes defender and the game goes on. 
  • If attacking players score 3 times in the row, defender stays another round in

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • Weight and accuracy of pass 
  • Angle and distance of support
  • Supporting angles and distance
  • Quality and direction of 1st touch
  • Speed of decision making
  • Quick play 1-2 touches

Regressions/Progressions: 

  • 4 +1 v1+1 add another defender to the half 
  • 4+1 v 2 add two defenders in the same half 
  • Score point after receiving the ball back from the target

Main Activity (30 mins)

Organization:

  • 3 teams of 6 in three zones. Adjust the field space and teams' size based on the numbers.
  • Two attacking teams in each third and defending team in the middle third. 

Instructions:

  • Activity starts with the coach who feed the ball to one of the teams
  • Defending team, immediately send 2 defenders to press and win the ball
  • Team who receives the ball first, try to complete 7 passes before playing forward to the Blue team for 1 point.
  • Blue team receive the ball and try to repeat the same action.
  • Once the ball moves successfully to the other half, the original defenders recover back into the shadow area and new defenders sprint to press the ball.
  • If defenders wins the ball, they try to score dribbling the ball out past the end line in the half the ball is won
  • Every 1.5 min rotate the defending team. 
  • Play multiple rounds with recovery time between

  • Movement to support the ball  
  • Angle and distance of support  
  • Quick play - 1-2 touches 
  • Weight and accuracy of pass 
  • Quality and direction of 1st touch - 1st touch to prepare next action

Progression 1 (30 mins)

Organization:

  • As above

Instructions:

  • 3 teams of 6 in three zones. Adjust the field space and teams' size based on the numbers.

Progression 2 (30 mins)

Organization:

  • 2 teams of 6 + GK position as shown
  • Team in possession 4v2 in def third, 2v2 in the middle zone and 1v2 in attacking third

Instructions:

  • Reds starts form the GK and after they complete 2 passes try to play the ball forward using either midfield players in the zone or playing straight to their #9.
  • Once the ball leaves the first zone, all players move freely and the open play takes place.
  • Objective of both teams is to score in the opponents goals.
  • If defenders win the ball in their attacking thirds, they try to score immediately for 2 points
  • If one of the teams scores, the game restarts from the GK of the team who scored. 
  • If the ball goes out, the other GK starts the ball.
  • All restarts respect the same shape as shown above.

Conditioned Game (20 mins)

Organization:

  • 7v7 as shown
  • Attacking team in GK-2-3-1
  • Defending team in GK-4-2 

Instructions:

  • Red team starts the ball from their GK in 7v6 possession inside the shadow area.
  • Objective is to break the opponent's defensive organization and try to score in their goal.
  • Offside rule is on the end line of shadow area.
  • Once the ball goes out of bounce, GK of the Red team plays another one and everyone recover inside the shadow area
  • If defending team wins the ball they try to score in the opponent goal for two points.
  • Play 2 rounds of 8 mins with recovery time between. Switch teams after the first round
