Cognitive Training: This small-sided game progresses to one-touch scoring. We challenge our players to concentrate on body shape and off the ball movements.

See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Constraint: 3 Passes to Score. Same passing contraints as Progression 1.
Constraint: Yellow attacks BLUE corner goals.
Coaching points: Players should be progressing toward one-touch. Understanding the rhythm of the game, coaches should see the players body shape matching decision making. Take note of players who sitll "hide" behind defenders (off the ball movements slow or not activated).

Progression 3: Same game, but now add neutrals on the touchlines. (This is especially nice if your team is familiar with this SSG and you have two other squads to integrate and substitute).
Constraint: 1-Touch only. Be patient coach! Despite the fact that the players may have shown proficiency toward the end of each of the other progressions, this will be messy.
Coaching Note: Allow 2 Touch if necessary, with the goal of one touch. If goal is scored from 1-touch combination -- award 2 points for goal.
Constraint: Neutrals CAN NOT shoot. Neutrals must stay on outside of grid.
ALL team players may shoot toward opponents goal.
Why? Decision-making. We are exercising our players brains in a strategical exercise where they have to make assumptions, and plan on exploiting space and beating defenders at least one to two steps ahead of the present action. When they start to get it, reinforce it. High praise. Wait for it. Encourage with questions: "Can we move to receive and redeliver in one-touch?" Let their bodies and brains connect an answer.

P1 2 Touch/ Possession Point
4 Quadrant, 2-Touch
Progression 1: 2 Teams of 3 players each attempt to pass the ball into three triangle zones
Constraint: Player may NOT leave his triangle zone.
Constraint: INSIDE Players must ALWAYS play OUTSIDE PLAYERS. No ping-pong between INSIDE PLAYERS to each other.
Constratint: Strive for 2 touch only.
Coaching Note: If team does not attempt to acheive an increased speed of play (2 touch) you could impose a penalty of having to start the sequence over. For example, 2 passes completed now resets to 0. I would suggest NEVER surrendering the ball willingly to the opponent as a "penalty."
